About Hala Sultan
Hala Sultan Tekke, the most important site of worship on the isle of Cyprus, takes its name from a saintly person known as Hala Sultan whose full name (patronymic) was Umm Harâm bint Milhân (Malik) ibn Khâlid al-Ansariyya al-Khazrajiyya, may Allah be pleased with her, (d. A. H. 28/648 C. E.).
Hala Sultan was originally from Medina, she was one of the first Muslims of Medina, who are known as the ansâr. Her mother's name was Malika, her father was Milhân ibn Khâlid. They belonged to the tribe of the Khazraj, and were of the clan of the Najjâr. Her maternal grandmother, Salma bint 'Amr ibn Labid al-Khazraji, had a son from her first marriage with Hâshim ibn 'Abd l-Manâf al-Qurayshî (our Holy Prophet's great- grandfather), whose name was Shayba, but commonly known as 'Abd al-Muttalib.

Our Imam
Shakir Alemdar
Imam Alemdar spent the first 18 years of his career working in London at the Sh. Nazim spiritual center and mosque where he ran the center’s operations and managed the operating team as well as led communal congregational prayers. While there, he managed projects serving the local community including working with local authorities to manage housing, counseling, and sustenance facilities for refugees.
Following his return to Cyprus in 2008, Imam Alemdar settled in the Republic of Cyprus and took on the role of Imam (Clergyman) and operating leader of the Larnaca historical landmark Hala Sultan Tekke. He was also appointed Mufti of Larnaca (senior Islamic Religious Officer) and took on responsibilities associated with operating several mosques and religious landmarks in the Republic of Cyprus. As part of this role, he began representing the Muslim community of Cyprus in International platforms working with religious leaders of other faiths across the country.
